Estamos in Madrid

That’s Spanish for “we’re actually doing this.”

Two connections and twenty three hours after departing our temporary quarters in DC (Petworth -> Dulles via the 5A -> Reykjavík -> London -> Madrid), we arrived at our apartment in the Lavapiés neighborhood of Madrid.

Our first task is to establish residency in Spain, which involves printing passport photos, making copies of documents, and visiting city hall and the police station. If all goes well – and that’s apparently a big “if” when you’re dealing with the Spanish bureaucracy – we’ll be Madrileños for the next year.
But we have done a few things besides paperwork, namely visiting three grocery stores to buy a couple of meals, jamón, some household stuff (paper towels, ziploc bags), jamón, wine, cheese, and jamón.

We also stopped by the Prado to see a few old friends (Hieronymus, Fr. Angelico, Raphael, et al) this evening.
